A modern, highly glazed home extension in Gloucestershire.

Rear View Willow Brook Longney design by Chris Gray Architect Gloucester

This brick-built cottage was constructed in the 1830s and is nestled along a country lane near by the River Severn in Gloucestershire. Open fields surround the property and offer panoramic views across the landscape.

The brief was to develop a bold and contemporary design that would retain the original character of the cottage whilst creating an open-plan modern family space to the rear. An improved connection with the outdoors was essential and the design.

Clean lines and minimal glazing provide a lightweight addition to the property. A contrasting material palette of sustainable charred timber and high-performance construction provides a high-quality, light, and airy addition to the family home. Long, panoramic views are captured across the site and open landscape.

The extension provides an inside-outside family living space unlocks a connection to the outdoors which was not before possible.
